Trips & VacationsMontara, CAMike and Terry's favorite getaway is to the Goose & Turrets Bed and Breakfast in Montara, CA, just a short distance north of Half Moon Bay. The B & B features five rooms, each with an individual theme and a private bath, a quiet sitting room for reading or conversation where tea is served each afternoon, and a superb breakfast starting promptly at 9:00 each morning. One of the great things about breakfast and tea is the interesting people you meet. The proprietors, Raymond and Emily Hoche-Mong, are the most hospitable and engaging hosts you could imagine. Highly recommended!See pictures from our December 2004 visit. Point Reyes, CAIf you prefer an isolated getaway, there is the Sear Star Cottage in Inverness, near Point Reyes. The cottage is at the end of a 75-foot dock and sits on stilts over Tomales Bay. Breakfast is left in the refrigerator for you to put in the oven at your leisure. Here are some pictures. There are more pictures of Point Reyes in Mike's Photo Gallery. The Sea Star is part of the Holly Tree Inn Bed & Breakfast. The main inn is a little ways off Highway One between Olema and Inverness Park. HawaiiMike and Terry took a Hawaii cruise in September 2000. Read about the cruise and see our photos in Mike's Photo Gallery.Cambria, CAMike and Terry spent a weekend in Cambria in March 2001 and stayed on at a motel Moonstone Beach Drive right on the ocean. They loved the area, but didn't like the motel all that much. They found another place to stay just up the street called Whitewater Inn, where they stayed when they returned in August. Highly recommended! They discovered a wonderful restaurant within walking distance from Moonstone Beach lodging. It's the Sea Chest Oyster Bar and Restaurant. The seafood is superb, the wine selections are great, and the services is impeccable. They open at 5:30 and don't take reservations, so get there at 5:15 and get in line. And be sure to bring plenty of cash, because they don't take American Express either (or VISA or MasterCard or Discover).
