November 14, 2022 – Accra, Ghana The seaside community of Chokor, a suburb in Accra with a population of about 3000 people, gets free broadband through an exciting new collaboration.

In Ghana, CSquared has over 1,070+ km of metro fiber in Greater Accra, Tema and Kumasi with plans to expand into Takoradi before the end of the year. CSquared also has in partnership with GRIDCo provisioned a high speed Backbone connecting Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi with plans to expand to the Togo and Ivory Coast borders and other regions of Ghana.

At CSquared we are committed to championing the progress of the African continent, providing opportunities for development and growth by bringing broadband closer to them, their families and their businesses.

That is why we are so excited to announce our support in partnership with Teledata, to BASICS International, a non profit organization that is working to empower the community of Chorkor and other areas in Ghana, through investing in education and providing holistic services to children.

Commenting on the initiative, Estelle Akofio-Sowah, CSquared’s West Africa Manager
stated Every day, broadband is connecting the unconnected. From education to health care to economic opportunity, more people in Ghana continue to benefit from living in a fully digitized world. This partnership goes a long way towards achieving CSquared’s goal of #InternetForAll. I am personally excited to partner with BASICS as I firmly believe that increased connectivity and digital transformation has a positive knock-on effect on economic development and growth, especially for our motivated and vibrant youth.”

This initiative is part of CSquared’s corporate social responsibility held under the theme, “LetsGrowTogether”.  The goal of the program is to drive digitisation and economic activity through connectivity, career development and digital skills training.

Gregory Eid, Teledata CEO commented We have known BASICS International for some time and are excited to contribute to their objectives through this CSR program with CSquared.  It is a known fact that the Internet, as a utility, cannot be taken out of education. Leveraging on it to drive social interventions is a necessity to bridge the gap between marginalized and affluent communities. We plan to keep the momentum by volunteering in mentoring initiatives with BASICS. We hope the community embraces all the interventions wholeheartedly.”

Ironically Accra being the most densely internet-connected city in Ghana, is not spared in the lack of ICT infrastructure in the country’s educational system.  Therefore for a nonprofit organization to be interested in the use of the Internet in their engagements is commendable and must be supported. The Chorkor community deserves to be part of the Internet connectivity wave that the world is seeing.

Patricia Wilkins, Basics Int Founder & Managing Director shared “Thank you CSquared and Teledata for this huge investment in BASICS International  and the Chorkor community.  This act of kindness and corporate social responsibility is an example of the pillars that we stand on and help us to grow.  Our commitment for the past 22 years has been to provide access to education and social inclusion to those underserved, and your contribution just made it a bit easier. Education and technology is an important (if not the most important tool in ending poverty, and your donation of high speed internet – will allow hundreds of people access to the tools, resources, and the world that they need to advance.”
